About NLP
NLP or Neuro-Linguistic Programming
is a study of how we think, how we use language and how
we decide to behave in the way that we do. From birth we
have to learn to make sense of the the information with
which we are bombarded. As children we do the best we
can. Sometimes this leads to good, effective and
fulfilling ways of operating in the world. Sometimes it
doesn’t! NLP helps us differentiate between what works
for us, and what doesn’t. It helps us to determine ‘the
difference that makes the difference’. It enables us to
learn about how we learn, how we acquired habits and
beliefs in the past, and how we can change those we no
longer find useful.
We use NLP to model our conscious and
unconscious patterns of behaviour, thought and feeling
so that we can identify changes we would like to make,
and then it provides us with a toolset of skills to
enable us to effect the change.
The
‘Neuro’
bit refers to our senses and to how our minds work, to
our thought patterns. Once we understand how we use our
minds, we open the way to greater flexibility.
‘Linguistic’
refers to the language we use, to the patterns, to the
metaphors that we construct in order to reflect (or more
accurately, refract) our life experiences to others.
Learning to master our use of language, both its
structure and meaning, leads to more effective
communication.
‘Programming’
refers to the way we develop habitual ways of responding
to similar situations. As we grow older, we may begin to
acknowledge that the strategies we developed when young
become inappropriate, but are so deeply ingrained that
we can’t change them. NLP helps us to understand where
these strategies came from and gives us tools to add to,
adapt or change these strategies.
NLP enables us to change ….. to
change ourselves, our relationships, our lives …. for
good.
NLP and Work/Life Balance
NLP techniques can help us to plan
outcomes so that we get the balance right for each
aspect of our lives. From time to time, we all
experience conflicting priorities, for example between
work and play, or between partner and children. NLP can
help us to understand what we value most and to develop
a method of achieving ALL that is important in a
balanced and satisfying way
NLP and Sustainability
In our world we see the results
of striving for our share of scarce resources. NLP
can help us all understand and value our differences
as well as acknowledging our similarities. It has
techniques for negotiating a positive settlement for
all, for changing people’s perceptions, for
eliminating the limiting beliefs that say …..’but we
can’t’ with the forward thinking ……‘we must and we
are about to …..’.
Be The Best ….. You Can Be
NLP skills enable you to tap into your potential so
that you can become the person you always hoped you
were.
